John Wesley College and Marist Brother High Schools Under-18 rugby teams have secured their spots in the 2018 Coca Zero Deans Trophy national quarterfinals.

This was after they won their semi-final matches at the Suva Grammar School ground yesterday.

JWC walloped Nasinu Secondary School 24-11 while MBHS overpowered Suva Grammar School 14-6. Nasinu Secondary will now face Suva Grammar to determine the third team from the zone to qualify.

JWC vice-principal Seni Nawanawa said after a lapse of five years they are able to qualify again for the national finals.

Nawanawa said the team consist of players who are new to the school and their achievement has really brought a lot of pride.

“With this victory comes with more preparation and we know MBHS will bring their strength during the finals,” he said.

“We are going in as underdogs and for us to reach this stage is really something big for the school.”

MBHS technical adviser Peni Qalituraga said they still have a lot of areas to improve before the finals.

“JWC have proven themselves and they have made it this far so we won’t be taking them for granted.”
