Fear of being a victim of sexual assault is what pushed Miss Seaqaqa Silika Baleinukuloa to vye for Miss Digicel Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival crown at Subrail Park in Labasa.

The newly-crowned queen from Niurua Village in Seaqaqa, Macuata Province, said she was confident she would win since her main focus was to advocate against sexual assault.

“I believe change can happen, even with one person standing out and making voice heard on sexual assault,” said the 19-year-old.

“To the people of Seaqaqa I want to say thank you and this crown is also for you. We may be a small part of Macuata Province, but I believe if we work together we can change the whole of Northern Division and bring an end to sexual assault.

“I would like to dedicate this win to my parents because they encouraged me to join this carnival as a contestant and supported me to achieve my goal,” the University of the South Pacific Labasa campus foundation science student said.

Meanwhile, the carnival committee chairperson Satish Kumar said during the eight days of carnival they managed to have a gross income of $101,980.
