Bank managers and some senior executive personnel in the Western Division last Thursday dug deep during a learning workshop in an effort to improve their prospects for greater success in the industry.

In a workshop organised by the Fiji Institute of Bankers and titled ‘Building leaders and empowered workplaces,’ participants focussed on leveraging their knowledge and techniques to attain specific goals.

The two-day workshop was conducted by Dilawar Grewal, of the University of the South Pacific.

Mr Grewal has an extensive portfolio, with experience in strategic planning, information technology, human resources and other corporate areas.

He was assisted by his wife Amerika Grewal a creative educator, mentor, capacity builder and trainer.

Ms Grewal also has extensive experience in career development, counselling, training and social media strategy in the fields of higher education and community engagement.

“The workshop is divided into personal development with the second part being how this personal development fits in to team development,” Mr Grewal said.

“From there on how the team fits into organisational strategic planning and efficiencies and things like.”

Mr Grewal said the outset began with looking at one’s qualities, traits and behavior patterns and what one was required to do.

“Like one person wanting to be happy and how he was going to articulate that in terms of goal setting and work life,” he said.

Mr Grewal said the lessons taught at the workshop would help leaders in the workplace make better decisions.

He said it also empower them to become better managers.

The workshop included hands-on activities to give participants the tools and techniques to identify and leverage their strengths and build up their personal and organisational leadership.
