The Fiji Police Force is calling on the business community in the Northern Division to use them when they intend to transfer large sums of money.

Northern Divisional Police Commander, Senior Superintendent of Police Eparama Waqa, made the call after Police arrested two men for their alleged involvement in the burglary of a restaurant in Labasa Town recently.

It is believed that the items allegedly stolen, which includes a till containing $2000, have been recovered.

“The two men were in police custody and were still being questioned over the allegation. However, they have not been charged yet,” SSP Waqa confirmed.

“The incident happened at Colour Dragon Restaurant in Labasa Town. We don’t want to give them any room to strike, and if we work together we can achieve that.

“If you see anyone acting in a suspicious manner, do let us know as we cannot rule out the opportunists who will try to take advantage of the last minute shopping rush.”

He said organised crimes had dropped, but a flurry of opportunistic offences had increased, which the Police was looking at.

Police have been, for the last month, emphasising the importance of a collaborative effort between the Force and the public to tackle crime.

“Expect more officer visibility this weekend, as the Fiji Police Force continues to ramp up operations targeted at ‘opportunistic’ criminals,” SSP Waqa said.

Parents and guardians have also been urged to monitor the movements of their children.
