The National Fire Authority received a new 4×4 Toyota Hilux Twin Cab worth $89,000 from Nadi-based Wananavu Group of Companies on Wednesday.

NFA chairperson John O’Connor said: “The goodwill gesture exemplifies the good relations in the Nadi community and potential for enhanced partnership collaboration for fire safety.

“This valuable resource will complement the capital developments that are underway for the National Fire Authority in the Western Division as well as a daily reminder of Wananavu’s investment in our fire service, particularly for the Nadi community.

“This is a bold investment not only in the monetary value, but an investment of trust and confidence.”

Mr O’Connor thanked the stakeholders for their foresight and initiative to contribute to the effective service delivery of the NFA.

Wananavu Group of Companies director Vijay Parmanandam said his gesture grew after the September 9, 2017 incident.

On that night one of the company vehicles caught fire at Sonaisali. The NFA was alerted and its personnel rushed to extinguish the fire.

“The next day as per protocol, NFA came to investigate the vehicle and the inspectors came in a fire truck. There was no emergency, but it was a procedure,” Mr Parmanandam said.

“This got me thinking as to why a fire truck needs to be used for follow ups if there was a separate vehicle.

“This donation aligns with our company values for a purpose. We stand together with NFA’s vision of building community resilience towards emergencies.”
