Four Dreketi Primary School students will attend the 30th anniversary of the Asian Pacific Children’s Convention in Fukuoka, Japan.

More than 300 children from the Asian Pacific countries are invited to attend the event with the intention of promoting inter-cultural understanding and friendship.

The Year Six students with their headteacher will leave the country today.

The tour party and organisers of the trip presented an itatau to the Permanent Secretary for Education, Heritage and Arts Alison Burchell yesterday.

Ms Burchell wished the students a safe trip and inspired them to enjoy and learn as much as possible.

She encouraged them to return with lots of memories to share.

School headteacher Salendra Vijay assured the parents of their safe journey and return.

He was grateful to the ministry and Asian Pacific Children’s Convention organisers for giving them the opportunity to travel to Japan.

Patrina Cox is eagerly looking forward to her first trip abroad.

“I am so excited because it will be my first time on a plane,” she said.

“There will be a lot of things to learn and I am grateful for the opportunity.”

The event will begin on Sunday, July 15, and the tour party will return on July 25.
