SODELPA leader Sitiveni Rabuka has admitted that he had an extra-marital affair and fathered a son.

He said his son was almost 18 years old and that he had been paying for his maintenance since 2002.

“He is well and okay,” he said.

Mr Rabuka was responding to a statement made in Parliament on Tuesday by Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum during the 2018-2019 National Budget debate.

Replying to a statement by SODELPA MP Ro Kiniviliame Kiliraki that the absence of God from the 2013 Constitution showed the Government side was godless, Mr Sayed-Khaiyum criticised the then SVT Government.

He said members of SVT  now SODELPA MPs who were ministers then led by then Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka were breaking their marriage vows every night despite having a Constitution in which God was present. Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said all the shenanigans were going on despite God being mentioned in the previous Constitutions.

He said the crime rate was high, nightclubs were expected to be shut to observe Sabbath, but for nightclub owners who could bribe Police officers their premises remained open and  former Government MPs were openly seen in those nightclubs during hours when it was supposed to be closed for business.

When questioned on how he had been dealing with talks about his past in Parliament, Mr Rabuka said he did not want to come down to that level because he had moved on.

“I thought they were much above that level because I credited them with a lot of maturity, but…”

It is understood that he had sought forgiveness from his family, the Vanua and the Church.

Meanwhile, Mr Rabuka had to cut short his Vanua Levu tour after he was again summoned by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).

FICAC stated that it would not make any comment.

Mr Rabuka returned to Suva yesterday.
