In a bid to raise funds for people living with spinal injuries, the Viti Spinal Injuries Association of Fiji (VSIAF) will host its annual Old Skool Ball next Friday.

The money raised will be used to improve homes for spinal injury patients for greater comfort and ease of access.

Association president Paul McGoon said spinal injury patients were usually young and in their most productive stage of life.

“In most cases, these patients are severely discriminated against because of their disabilities, their conditions of poverty or the difficulties they face in trying to access support services and facilities.”

So far the association has delivered more than 600 pieces of equipment and projects which have assisted more than 300 patients and 22 institutions in the Central and Northern divisions.

“The association primarily targets rural and disadvantaged urban communities where poverty is common and access to support services and facilities is almost impossible,” Mr McGoon said.

“We are calling on corporate bodies and the general public to support the event and assist in raising funds to improve the lives of people living with spinal injuries. It is an event not to be missed.”

The association expects at least 250 to 300 people to attend the event and enjoy a night of entertainment and charity.

Meanwhile, former All Black and Samoa Rugby Union international, Sir Michael Jones, will be the chief guest for the night at the Grand Pacific Hotel ball room.
