Fiji Swimming will be fielding a strong 38-member team for the Junior Pan Pacific Games hosted in Suva on August 23-27.

This was confirmed yesterday by Fiji Swimming vice-president Karen Lobendhan during the Fiji Swimming Grand Prix 1 at the Nadi Social and Sports Club yesterday.

“We are very proud that we are able to get the rights to host the event for the first time and this was after the success of hosting the 2016 Oceania Games,”she said

The Pan Pacific Charter Nations of Australia, Canada, Japan, and the United States are well established to be part of the nine countries.

Upcoming swimmers such as Rosemary Rova and Temafa Yalimaiwai are among the best.

“We are giving the Fiji team a window from March to next grand Prix in early August so basically we hope to fill a total of 38 swimmers. That is the bracket we are looking at, and those participated in the Oceania held last month and we are earmarking provided if they keep their times up.”.

She said they are working very closely with the Fiji Sports Council for the preparation of the Damodar Aquatic Centre in Suva.

Meanwhile, over 250 swimmers competed at the first grand prix of the year with great results created in the pool.

With the Junior Pan Pacific held this year, pushes two grand prix to be held before and the third one after.

The short course runs till October
