A man is in Police custody suspected of driving a stolen taxi, which led to a Police chase in Seaqaqa on Thursday morning.

Police were alerted of the incident and the chase ended in Vunivau where the vehicle was recovered. Vunivau is about an hour’s drive from Seaqaqa.

Northern Divisional Police Commander (DPC) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Eparama Waqa confirmed the incident.

He said the Police Task Force team from the Seaqaqa Police Station and Labasa had chased the vehicle.

“The Police was able to arrest the suspect who is held in custody at Labasa Police Station,” he said.

“The chase started in early hours of Thursday morning through Hibiscus Highway and towards Labasa where the vehicle was left at Vunivau,” he said.

Aisake Lutumailomalagi, a witness said: “I was outside my house when I heard a loud noise and saw the vehicle. I did not notice Police vehicles chasing the vehicle.

“I ran outside towards the vehicle to see if anyone was in need of help. Then I saw Police and someone in the vehicle being arrested.”

Investigations continue.
