A man who was caught with 4.69 grams of methamphetamine allegedly in his possession, has been charged and remanded in custody. He has two other drug possession-related cases pending.

Peter Fong appeared before Magistrate Charles Ratakele at the Nasinu Magistrates Court yesterday. It is alleged that he was found with 4.69g of meth on July 13 during a Police raid.

The 56-year-old was represented by lawyer Jerry Dinati, who made an oral bail application.

Mr Dinati said that the weight of the alleged drugs was below Category 1.

Magistrate Ratakele said that this was only applicable to marijuana and not methamphetamine.

Mr Dinati also told the court that the accused had been appearing in court at all times and had a fixed address. He said Fong’s sureties had paid in cash and he should be released under strict bail conditions.

Magistrate Ratakele said since the accused had two charges of possession of illicit drugs such as marijuana and methamphetamine, it was a serious offence.

Fong was remanded into Police custody and the case was adjourned to today.
