The Fiji National Rugby League and the Fiji New South Wales (NSW) ISP Cup Bid 2019 team signed a memorandum of understanding in Suva yesterday.

The new relationship will support the effort that the project has in the opening of opportunities for the participation of local players in the NSW Cup competition.

This ultimately gains entry into the world toughest rugby league competition while providing a professional pathway for children across Fiji to make their way from the Fiji into the NRL

FNRL chairman Peni Musunamasi acknowledge the support of the Fiji New South Wales (NSW) ISP Cup Bid 2019 team in bring out the new initiatives

“I would like to thank the team for the insight as it is a way that brings us together,” Musunamasi said

“This is history in the making as it is the first time that we will be having a rugby league team in Fiji with our local players playing in the NSW Cup competition.

“This is something that we always dreamt of for our local players to be exposed to overseas competition.

“Now the players can compete on and off for 26 weeks playing 13 games.

“We look forward to the competition in 2019 and hopefully the Government will assist us.”

Fiji NSW ISP Cup Bid Director Petero Civoniceva said this would be a great opportunity for local players to be exposed to overseas tournaments.

“This will be a good development pathway in working with the FNRL in providing a life changing opportunity for the players,”Civoniceva said.
