The National Fire Authority (NFA) has been commended for their quick response in saving the home of a 50-year-old man in Komavi Street, Nabua in Suva.

Abhiram Singh, the landlord of the two flats said he bought the house in December last year and was happy none of his tenants were injured nor did any lose his or her life.

“I received a call from one of my tenants early in the morning stating that the house caught fire,” Mr Singh said.

“When I arrived at the scene there were three fire trucks trying to contain the fire, I know that if they did not arrive on time then the whole house would not have been saved.

“I am happy at how fast they responded to the call.”

Police Spokeswomen Ana Naisoro confirmed that the tenants were asleep when they heard people shouting that the house was on fire.

Ms Naisoro said the tenants were also assisted in controlling the fire with buckets of water as the NFA attended to the scene and managed to control the fire.

Ms Naisoro added that the cost of damage was yet to be ascertained.
