Turaga na Tui Macuata Ratu Wiliame Katonivere will open the Fiji National University (FNU) Open Day at the Labasa Civic Centre today.

Ratu Wiliame, who was recently appointed the FNU Labasa Campus Stakeholder Advisory board chairman accepted the invitation early this week.

The FNU Labasa Campus head  Pardeep Lal said it was an honour to host Tui Macuata as the chief guest given his strong advocacy towards education, sustainable environment and business development in the division.

“It’s indeed a great privilege for us to have the Tui Macuata as the guest of honour for the opening of the FNU Open Day,” Mr Lal said.

“He has always been passionate about education and I’m sure he will inspire students to strive towards reaching their potential and help develop the northern division.”

The Open Day scheduled for today and tomorrow Friday, is being hosted at three centres, in the Central, Western and Northern Divisions.

This will enable students and members of the public from all divisions to visit the nearest open day venue and explore the wide range of programmes the Fiji National University offers.

The venues for the Open Days are as follows: Nasinu Campus (Central Division), Natabua Campus, Lautoka (Western Division) and Labasa Civic Centre (Northern Division).

Twenty-five secondary schools have confirmed their participation for the open day in the Northern Division.

Rabi High School and Taveuni High School will be attending the important event for the first time.

According to Mr Lal, they are expecting more than 2000 secondary school students to visit the open day over the two days.

“The response from secondary schools and teachers have been positive,” he said.

“We have some last minute confirmations coming in, which is a great sign because it shows that the schools are keen to be part of this important event.

“Preparations for the open day have been wonderful. All the colleges are busy setting up their displays.

“The students are also involved and are enjoying the atmosphere. We look forward to meeting lots of prospective students and parents over the next two days.”

Mr Lal said invitations had also been sent to the business community and other important stakeholders to visit and be part of the event.

The open day will be open to students and members of the general public from 9am to 5pm on both days.
