Rewa rep Savenaca Baledrokadroka will lead the Vodafone Fijian Under-19 football team during the Melbourne tour next week.

The 22- member side was named at the Fiji FA Academy at Korovuto College yesterday.  Tavua rep Kaliova Dau will be the vice-captain.

Baledrokadroka hails from Levuka, Ovalau and was part of the Vodafone Fijian team that lost 1-0 to Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur recently.

He replaced Mitieli Namuka who was injured in the last quarter.

“I’m honoured to take on this challenge and I know expectations are high for the team. But I can’t make any promise as we all need to play our part.

The 19-year old suffered an eye irritation which ruled him out in 2015.

“I had a problem with my right eye, and I was not able to see when I was camping with the U20,” he added.

“I did not play for two seasons but gradually I fully recovered.

Fiji Football chief executive Mohammed Yusuf challenged the boys to make the country proud in the lead up to the FIFA U20 World Cup qualifiers in Tahiti next month.

Vodafone rep Antonio Kitione said, “You all have the opportunity and the potential to make a mark.

“We are committed to taking the sport to greater heights and inspiring existing young talents. The plan is to further boost football at grassroots level and with the right structure in place and with dedication and discipline of the players themselves we can breed more stars.”
