Rarawai mill in Ba is back in operation after temporarily shutting down on Wednesday just after beginning with the crushing on Tuesday.

This was confirmed by Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) head of strategic communications Elenoa Korovulavula.

“The mill ceased crushing from 2.30 pm on Wednesday,” Ms Korovulavula said

“The reason for this was that an elevator chain had unfastened.

“Engineers were deployed to rectify the problem and fixed the problem on the same day and crushing resumed.

Fiji Cane Producers Association Ba district president, Jinendra Singh was thankful that the operations had started without much delay.

“I’m thankful the mill had resumed operations and farmers will breathe a sigh of relief,” Mr Singh said.

FSC is still assessing the payout to be made to everyone affected by it and the tonnage that has been produced so far by the Rarawai mill.

FSC said a message was sent to their growers and lorry operators and the welfare of the drivers that were at the Rarawai mill site was accommodated for.
