It was a huge relief for the families of Naboutini settlement, Serua, yesterday.

This is after the handing over of four water tanks each having a capacity of 5200 litres to help families access clean and safe drinking water.

Speaking at the handing over of the tanks yesterday, Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Vijay Nath said this asssistance was made possible through the Government’s Rain Water Harvesting assistance programme.  Mr Nath said this was a demonstation of Government’s commitment to ensure that all Fijians had access to safe drinking water.

“The handing over of the new tanks today demonstrates your Government’s effort in making sure that everyone has access to clean and safe water,” he said.

Mr Nath said while the provision of clean water was critical, it was also important to save water.

“Now that you have clean water, one must consider conserving water.

“Make sure that you close running or leaking taps and also use water in a wise manner,” he said.

Mr Nath urged recipients to take good care of these tanks as it is a critical investment to the people of Naboutini. District Advisory Councillor Serua/Namosi, Johnny Sylvester acknowledged Government’s assistance in reaching out to the people and providing such assistance.

“Accessing clean drinking water has been an ongoing issue for the people of Naboutini and this assistance has come in such a good time,” he said.

“I thank Government for this assistance and it means so much to the people as we can now cook, wash and drink using clean water.”

Meanwhile, residents of Naboutini settlement commended Government for this great assistance.
