After settling for second place last year, Kennol Narayan was determined to win the 2018 Island Chill Suva Marathon yesterday.

The 24-year old Rakiraki native clocked 2 hours 55 seconds to win the men’s full marathon race.

Narayan participated in the 2018 Gold Coast Marathon this year and said it was a good exposure for him.

“Having joined the Suva Marathon in 2016, I had always aim to better my performance,” Narayan said.

“Though my time was more than my personal best I am happy with the win.

“I have learnt a lot from the recent Gold Coast Marathon and this has developed my running as well.”

Suva Marathon Club president Gina Houng Lee said the turnout was good recording more than 1000 runners from various corporate houses and clubs.

“We can’t control the weather and in saying that we started off with a great day it was a great climate to run,” Lee said.

“The turnout has been great and there were not many problems with the runners and in terms of hydration as well.”

Lee said they have bigger plans next year and thanked all the corporate sponsors for their continuous support.
