Students of Naiyala High School in Tailevu would like to send message to the public at this year’s Kula Awards- Fijian Made Film Awards.

That message is that everyone has a God-given talent.

The message will be reflected in the school’s entry in this year’s competition.

The script of the school’s short film, The Artist, was written by Year 13 student Meresiana Radio.

The school’s co-ordinator for the annual Kula Awards, Gavidi Lagonilakeba, said not everyone was good at school work.

“Some of the students may not good in class work, but they may be good in something else. Every child is born with a talent and we must not overlook that talent,” Mr Lagonilakeba said.

“Most of the time we look down on the children who are not good in school. We must encourage children to follow their dream.”

Mr Lagonilakeba said the story was based on the life of a village boy.

“The film we made is about how a poor village boy was able to lift his family’s living standard by using the talent he had,” he said.

“Sometimes we don’t care when it comes to a child’s interest. We as parents want our children to become what we want them to become and forgetting what they want to do in life. We need to ask our children what they want to become in life.”

The public can vote their favourite school film on Facebook via this link:
