It took a Fijian to push Australia out of the Rugby World Cup Sevens title race.

Forward Tavite Veredamu scored France winning try as they edged out the Aussies 22-17 at the AT &T Park in San Francisco yesterday.

“No one was going to stop when i received the final pass,”Veredamu told SUNsports.

“The only thing that was on my mind was to score that try and win the game. When that last pass was thrown to me I first made sure that i handled it well before I raced to the tryline and no one was going to stop me.”

Veredamu said after the World Cup he is going back to his village in Nakavu, Namosi, for a short break.

“i’ve acutally booked my flight to Fiji next Wednesday,”he added.

Australian 7s coach Tim Walsh was disappointed with the outcome and indicated that it was something they learn from and move on.

Sad end for Kenya

indiscipline bought Kenya’s ampaign to an abrupt halt yesterday.

”it didn’t work for us in the end,”a gutted Kenyan captain Collins Injera said.

With tries to Willie Ambaka, Jeffery Oluoch (2) and Injera they took a commanding 26-0 lead. However, the Kenyans blew it when Samuel Oliech and Samuel Negthe were yellow carded one after the other. This allowed the Scots to hit back with tries to Harvey Elms, Scott Riddell, penalty try and jamie Farndale running in the final two tries.

Scotland with Fijian-born forward Joe Nayacavou ran in their unanswered tries to claw their way back to a 31-26 win.

Argentina on a high

The training at the Olympic Training Centre in Chula Vista paid off for Argentina after they thrashed Canada 28-0.

Coach Santiago Gomez Cora said on a back of a positive season with the return of their key players they ended their preparations on a high note.

Canada simply had no answer to the onslaught with Argentina’s tries scored by Santiago Mare (2), Gaston Revol and Mateo Carreras.
