In today’s Rugby World Cup Sevens semifinals in San Francisco, let’s take a look at four key players who play a pivotal role in their team’s campaign. They are:

KURT BAKER (New Zealand)

ROLE: As co-captain the veteran playmaker controls NZ’s game. Once they are stuck the ball is quickly recycled and given back to him to change their course of direction. Baker did it in the second half against France while trailing 0-7. He scored the first try and created the overlap for

Joe Ravouvou to score.

WERNER KOK (South Africa)

ROLE: His aggressive defence and strong running inspires his teammates to lift their game. Kok’s fearless attitude sees him lead from the front. He plays a much similar role to what Isake Katonibau was doing while in the Fijian 7s team.

ROLE: He is their match winner either he scores the try that matters or he sets up the try that swings the game into their favour. A hardworking forward, who many times have been England’s unsung hero.

ROLE: A deceptive runner and also has a nose for gaps in the opposition defence. Lots of speed to burn and always creates the overlap for his team-mates to score.
