Home Curfew For Lautoka 18

Lautoka Magistrate Rangajeeva Wimalasena has ordered strict bail conditions including a daily home curfew for a group of men charged with one count of disobedience of lawful order.

Magistrate Wimalasena, yesterday ordered the 18 accused men to remain indoors in their houses from 7 pm to 6 am.

He also ordered them not to interfere with any witnesses and for them not to re-offend during the duration of their bail.

Members of the public are reminded that it is an offence to be drinking in public placesor in vehicles within municipal boundaries as the Liquor Act prohibits the act.

According to police, the group were allegedly drinking alcohol in a public place along the Vitogo Parade, Narara Parade and Yasawa Street areas in Lautoka, when the men were arrested and charged on July 18.

The group was warned by police of the law regarding the prohibition of drinking alcohol in public areas, but they were alleged to have disobeyed the warning, hence the reason for their arrest.

All 18 men were given a bail-bond of $1000, provide two sureties and each ordered by the court to pay a cash bail of $200.

They are Setareki Navarua, William Navori, Elia Vesikula, Iliesa Druma, Noa Draunivunimasi, Levi Qaranivalu, Esau Ioane, Isoa Vatubuli, Victor Davulevu, Tani Biumaiwai, Viliame Keteiwai, Isoa Dakuvi, Sivo Bose, Suliasi Naqaqa, Eparama Tabilai, Tomasi Vadanawa, Tom Victor and Kali Valiuma.

The 18 accused were represented by Legal Aid Commission counsels Vasemaca Narara,  Sheena Singh and Benzine Muhammed.

Sergeant Arvind Kumar and Corporal Chanika Gounder appeared for the prosecution.
