Two couples from South Africa were happy to arrive in their yacht Toccata at Savusavu Bay in the northern division yesterday after travelling from New Zealand and Tonga.

Vonna Hermans and her husband Comish Hunter have been to Fiji once and this was their first time in Savusavu.

For their friends, Peter Keme and Anner Lomax this was their second visit to Fiji and also their first for Savusavu.

The four are participants in a rally organised by Island Cruising Association of New Zealand and had left South Africa to take part in the competition.

Their yacht with Ms Lomax as skipper had left New Zealand at the end of May to sail to Tonga.

“It took us ten days as it was a rough passage,” Mrs Lomax said.

“Then it took us three days from Tonga to Savusavu,” she said.

“The sail from Tonga to Savusavu was very beautiful and we are happy to be in Savusavu.

“I love snorkelling and diving in Fiji.”

Ms Hunter said the people were very friendly and the weather was lovely.

“We are planning to stay here for two months exploring other islands like the Lau islands and the Yasawas,” Mrs Hunter said.

“Every island is different and they have their own way of doing things.”

Mr Keme said that at every island they visited they made sure to present their isevusevu and have been enjoying the unique welcome ceremony. Mr Hunter said he had already tasted Fijian food and he loved it and wanted to try more dishes.
