Campus Life at The University of the South Pacific (USP) is one that is always looked forward to by prospective students and thoroughly enjoyed by current ones.

The university has a dedicated Campus Life Section, which is entrusted with the responsibility for the provision of services that foster a sense of community and promotes physical, social, spiritual and intellectual growth and development among students in an atmosphere of understanding, responsibility, tolerance and sensitivity.

The section provides services in the areas of careers and entrepreneurship, disability, health, counselling, campus activities, campus engagement, orientation, first year experience and sports.

At the Career & Entrepreneurial Centre and Services, students can take advantage of the opportunity to take part in a number of career development programmes, which include career information, job search skills information, career workshops and seminars, self-employment information, volunteerism and community work, and current job vacancies in the public and private sector.

Furthermore, USP believes in positive and inclusive learning and living environments for student excellence and as such has Disability Resource Centre (DRC) to ensure a comfortable environment for students with disabilities.

DRC works with other departments, sections and staff in the University to remove learning challenges for students with disabilities and provide appropriate information, services, assistive technologies and practical support.

In addition to this, USP is adequately equipped with disability-friendly infrastructure for easier accessibility to and from buildings.

Since 1993, the university has a Health Scheme in operation which over the years has proven to be a great success as it covers an attractive package and students are encouraged to join the scheme.

At USP, students and staff members can access the Counselling Services free of charge. The counselling team consists of two highly qualified Counselling Psychologists who are trained to work with a diverse student population on any issue of concern.

The counselling sessions are provided in a safe environment to discuss concerns within students’ unique personal, cultural and academic context.

The university is committed to providing a supportive environment for our students, to developing a sense of community and engagement, and to enabling students to maximise their academic potential and the Campus Life First Year Experience (FYE) Buddy Programme is an important strategy in achieving these goals.

The FYE Buddy Programme, which is a non-academic mentoring student support for first year students, makes an important contribution to achieving the best possible first year experience for these students.

Additionally, the Campus Life Activities office aims to deliver a wide range of services for students and staff, to provide a holistic meaning to university life.

We believe that a healthy balance between academic and social life is very important for successful learning which contributes to the overall graduate attributes.

Throughout the year, the office organises a variety of activities like the monthly Pacific Market Days, Health Week, Family Day and many more.

The office has a range of registered sports clubs, which prospective and current students can be part of, and have the opportunity to compete as part of the renowned USP Islanders team.

The office also operates a student bar on campus, which provides a safe and ‘relaxing’ environment for students to ‘wind’ down.

Come down to USP’s Open Day tomorrow, to find out more about the services provided by the Campus Life office.
