Right now the challenge ahead of us is to lift Fiji’s productivity performance, says Commissioner Northern Jovesa Vocea.

Mr Vocea opened the Fiji National University, National Training and Productivity Centre Quality Circle symposium at Labasa Civic Centre yesterday, he said this symposium having the theme ‘sustainable productivity’ was viable.

“Quality Circle is important for our productivity and quality revolution,’ Mr Vocea said.

“It empowers and provides local organisations with the knowledge and techniques to build a more innovation, prosperous and inclusive future.

“We need to work smarter than working harder to produce better output and not just how to produce more output,” he said.

“It is important to understand what drives productivity and to be able to identify gaps as well as to take relevant steps to speed up productivity growth and enhance levels of productivity.

“To achieve productivity growth, higher income and a better standard of living, the Fijian Government has continued to encourage entrepreneurial activity through its many Government initiatives.”

National Training and Productivity Centre director Isimeli Tagicakiverata said it was the first time to have Quality Circle symposium for the Northern Division.

“The theme for this year resonated with Fiji’s aspiration towards fostering productivity and innovation in its pursuit of growth, development and quality,” Mr Tagicakiverata said.

“Productivity improvement is a key factor in economic development.

“This is recognised globally.

“Quality and excellence will continue to play a crucial role in transforming our economy into a smarter nation.

“The NTPC will strive to facilitate efforts so that industry can benefit and enterprises can remain competitive.”
