National Federation Party provisional candidate Riddi Damodar is ready to stand firm against any obstacle that may be coming her way.

Addressing the hundreds of people who turned up for the Party’s annual general meeting at the AD Patel Grounds in Ba, Ms Damodar said the lead up to the upcoming 2018 General Election would not be easy.

She spoke about the minimum wage, health care and the rising crime rate against women.

Ms Damodar said the gap between the rich and the poor was a major concern in our societies.

“You all know that the difference is increasing day by day. When a man wakes up in the morning, he only thinks of how he could earn a little bit more to provide for the family.

“We will implement the $5 minimum wage rate but our job will not end there. The full solution is that with increased earnings, we should think of reducing expenses.”

For that, she said the Party would choose 15 items to remove Value Added Tax (VAT) from.

Ms Damodar also emphasised on what she called the lack of a proper health care system.

“One my friends who is about to give birth is concerned… and afraid that she might lose her child because she read in the news that 300 babies in the country lost their lives,” she said.

On child abuse, Ms Damodar said crimes against our children were on the rise but urged the women at the gathering to stand firm and do what was right to protect their young.

“Whenever I speak, I speak from my heart,” she said.

“We have many female candidates in NFP, which shows that the Party is promoting women,” she said.

“Listen to your heart and never compromise. For us women, we have always been taught to understand, compromise, adjust.

“What I’m trying to do is not asking for your vote for me but to listen to your own thoughts in making a decision.”

The party also announced 11 more provisional candidates yesterday, taking the total number to 45 for the NFP.
