Fijian Embassy monitors raging wildfire

The Fijian Embassy in Washington, United States of America, is monitoring the fire in Redding, California, which by 9pm last night had reportedly killed five people including two children.

Fiji’s Ambassador to the USA, Solo Mara, told the Fiji Sun yesterday that Redding was further North from the main population centres for Fijians such as Santa Rosa, Sacramento and San Francisco’s Bay Area.

“It is too early to tell if there are any Fijians in the area,” he said from Washington.

“We are monitoring the situation closely.”

According to media reports, a vehicle problem ignited the fire last Monday, but it wasn’t until last Thursday that the fire exploded and raced into communities west of Redding before entering city limits.
