The Vodafone Fijian Under-19 football side won four of their five tour matches in Australia.

In their final tour match they beat Club Mauritius 2-1 in Melbourne last Saturday night. The powerful Club Mauritius fielded six Mauritius internationals as they took an early 1-0 lead.

The young Fijians fought gallantly despite playing cold conditions. They came back strongly in the second half as Kaliova Dau scored the equaliser. As the match was heading for a draw, the Fijians struck the winning goal through Iliesa Rakuka.

Fijian U19 head coach Bal Sanju Reddy said it was a good learning experience for the players as they played quality opponents.

“All throughout this tour, we remained focused to the purpose which was to give international exposure to the players as we build-up towards the OFC playoffs in Tahiti,” Reddy said.

“I would like to thank Fiji Football Association and Victorian Multicultural Sports Association for making this tour possible whereby we were able to gauge our players for our final preparations.”

The team arrives today.
