Our future, economic growth and sustainability is dependent on our youths.

This was reiterated by the Minister for Youth and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou while officiating at the Public Consultation on the revised National Youth Policy 2018-2022 yesterday.

The draft policy was a result of stakeholders, consultations, formal and informal discussions and interviews conducted in the four divisions of Fiji. It was also based on the reviews of the current youth situation analyses.

Mr Tuitubou said they have consulted some youth organisations in trying to get a draft policy which was more updated.

“We have numerous issues to address including preparing for leadership, developing critical thinking, creativity and innovation and our vulnerable youth populations living with disabilities, who are poor, those coming to terms with their gender identity and sexual orientation, those who experience violence, are unemployed, single parents, work in the informal sector including sex workers, drugs and alcohol addicts, are on current or former prison inmates and the list goes on,” he said.

The policy establishes an inclusive, binding and accountable framework which would direct, guide and monitor the development agenda and progress of youths in Fiji.

The consultation was held at De Vos on the Park, attended by more than 60 youths and stakeholders.
