Japan- based Dinesh Chand shot a two over par 74 in round one of the Fiji International at the Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course yesterday.

He is tied on the 49th spot after a round of 18 holes.

“I finished 74,” he said.

“I played great today just a few mistakes as I did two bogeys. The wind got us in few holes and it is was tough beside that we played good golf and hopefully continue playing well.”

Chand said the field looks promising for day two which tees off at 6.35am.

“The field is getting stronger and stronger and supported by Fiji Airways which is great and proud to be back home playing again,” he added.

His caddy and local pro Apenisa Koroicure guided him along the 18-hole course.

Chand, who comes from a golfing family in Nadi, now plays on the Japan Golf tour.

At the end of 2009, he lost his full playing rights for the Japan Golf Tour and so decided to play on the developmental Japan Challenge Tour in 2010.

He won two events in a row which resulted in him regaining his full playing rights for the second half of the Japan Golf Tour season.

He finished second at the 2010 Sun Chlorella Classic. Chand has three wins on the Japan Golf Tour, and two on the Japan Challenge Tour.
