Battle Of The Giants Champions Reward Players, Officials

The 4R Electrical Ba football team celebrated their Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants tournament win in style at Khalsa College, Ba last Saturday night.

Minister for Health and Medical Services Rosy Akbar who was the chief guest at the celebration indicated that the Ba football team are one of the most successful teams in the country.

“Ba has won 90 titles in total and that is a big achievement,” she said.

The Ba side received $15,000 for winning the tournament while the team sponsors stepped in to ensure that the players and team officials receive $2000 each.

Akbar also encouraged the Ba Football Association officials to master the art of taking criticisms.

The Ba FA president Rishi Kumar and his officials were criticised because of the team’s poor performance at the Vodafone Fiji FACT tournament.

“Everybody has a right to criticise,” said Akbar.

However, she emphasised the need for positive criticism.

“If we are not happy with the way things are going on we need to put our voices at the right forum.”

Akbar said balancing work and football was not an easy job however she urged the players’ partners to be understanding.

“To all the spouses, the men need your support in this.”

Akbar said the consistent hard work put in by the players and officials is something that should not go unnoticed.

She reiterated that the people of Ba would soon be getting a new stadium.

“The Government is encouraging sports and that $4 million stadium would be a gift to the people of Ba,” she added,

Fiji Football Association president, Rajesh Patel also congratulated the Ba side for winning the 2018 B.O.G tournament.

“The pride for the district is there but we have to instill in ourselves thenational pride.

“Fiji is something that all the players should aim for and play to win. We have to move forward and enter the world stage,” said Patel.

He said their main aim was to take Fiji to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
