A-G: Upgrade Needed Before Navua Is Town

Before Navua is declared a town, there are a number of infrastructure upgrades that need to take place.

Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum told this to the people of Navua who had gathered at Rampur College to attend the 2018-2019 national budget roadshow.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum was asked when would Navua be declared a town.

He said currently, even the road leading up to the lone park in Navua- Thomson Park was not fully tarsealed.

He said instead of declaring Navua a town for the sake of it, it was prudent that the required upgrades took place.

He also called on Fijians to be patriotic. He said it was unpatriotic when Fijians falsified statutory declarations for Help for Home initiatives and Homes-CARE initiatives.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said Government put a lot of faith in Fijian people to do the right thing.

Falsifying the extent of damage to their homes was not the right thing to do.

He said Government spent more than $125million to assist Fijians to get back on their feet after Cyclone Josie, but the onus was on people to be honest.

He was responding to concerns that in a family of five, all five were given MPaisa cards to buy household items after recent natural disasters. Edited by Losirene Lacanivalu
