High Blood Pressure Common Among Those Given Free Medical Service

Ark Peace cardiovascular specialist Dr Shaoping Chen, said the most common disease detected on the first day of free medical service was high blood pressure.

Dr Shaoping said they will not perform surgeries due to certain intervention that need to be followed.

“We provide medical check-up, give consultations and prescribe medications but we don’t give surgery for cardiovascular because certain intervention need to be followed,” Dr Shaoping said.

He said many patients coming had hypertension, high blood pressure while some had coronary artery diseases.

“Patients were adviced to take medicine while some need to change their lifestyle and do more exercise in order to have low cholesterol and lessen their sugar level,” he said.

Members of the public apart from visiting the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy hospital ship Ark of Peace at Kings Wharf were provided the same fee service at the Lami, Raiwaqa and Makoi health centres.

According to Dr Shaoping hundreds of patients have been visiting respective  free of charge medical service points the past five days.

Chinese national businesswoman Elaine Shend, 38, from Beijing province in China who has been in Fiji for 10 years was happy about the arrival of the naval vessel.

“I am so proud of this ship because I’m Chinese and look forward to visiting the hospital ship,” kindergarten mangeress Mrs Shend said.

Ray Zhao, 36, from Zhejiang province in eastern China said the arrival of the hospital was a chance for members of the Chinese community and locals to get free medical check-up.

“This brings home closer to us,” Mr Zhao said.
