To further strengthen close and strong bilateral relation between India and Fiji, Indian Naval Ship (INS) Sahyadri is calling into the Port of Suva on Monday, August 13, 2018.

The naval vessel on a goodwill visit departs three days later on Thursday.

INS Sahyadri (F49) is the third ship of the three-strong Shvalik-class of guided missile frigates serving the modern Indian navy.

This Indian Naval Ship draws her name from the beautiful, age-defying Western Coast (also known as Sahyadri ranges) stretching across 1600 kilometres along the Western Coast of India. The ship is visiting Fiji enroute to India after its participation in the RIMPAC at Hawaii.

The biennial Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) is the world’s largest international maritime warfare exercise, as was held from June 27 to August 2, 2018.

Twenty-six nations, 47 surface ships, five submarines, 18 national land forces, and more than 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel participated in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California.

Participants this year included forces from Australia, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Colombia, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Peru, the Republic of Korea, the Republic of the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tonga, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Vietnam.

During their Fiji visit, the Indian naval ship personnel will have professional interaction with their Republic of Fiji counterparts and the ship will have an Open Day for the general public on August 14, 2018 from 10am.

The on-board visit will be arranged in a group of around 20 persons.

Schools and tertiary institutions can arrange guided tours with the High Commission in Suva.

A medical camp has been organised where doctors from India and Fiji will jointly perform free health screening next Wednesday, August 15, 2018 from 10am to 4:30pm at Ratu Sukuna Park, Suva.

The Fiji Military band along with INS Sahyadri musicians will perform jointly from 11:30am to 1:30pm on the day.

Officers from INS Sahyadri, RFMF and Indian High Commission will also be participating in mangrove and sandalwood planting acitivies on Tuesday, August 14 from 4pm to 8pm.

The ship will also be celebrating the 72nd Independence Day of India in the Port of Suva on August 15.
