Lucky are the ones who find comfort in the bliss of the open sea and it is no exception for Vincent Moore, 28, of Rakiraki. He had always been drawn to the waves right from his childhood.

“I always used to go into the open sea with my dad. It was something that I loved the most,” Mr Moore said.

Kalokalo Volasiga chief engineer, Mr Moore said everything about the sea was just magnificent that his life would feel quite incomplete without them.

“The fishing, the weather, the winds and the sunsets are just so beautiful when you’re out at sea,” he said.

The unpredictive weather at sea was something any seafarer would be concerned about but it was perhaps in the phase of longing which created the moments to be cherished while at sea.

He said that life at sea was highly addictive.

“I’m drawn towards it on water or under water.”

The magnitude of silence at the sea was something that could not be bargained for anything else .

“I just love the silence at sea. In the evenings seeing the beauty of a sunset is majestic; you just can’t explain its beauty because every one of them is different from the previous days,” he said.

A certified sea-diver Mr Moore previously worked in watersports tourism activities.

Diving into the deep was something he has mastered over time and his strength tested when he was shark diving (feeding) between  2010-2014 .   His shipping career started in 2006 when he started working for a barge ship.

“Sailing is in my family; my dad, uncle and three of my four brothers are sailors,” he said.

“The youngest one is still in school, he is in Year 13.”

Today will be just another day at sea when the boat in which he would be traveling is carring tourist passengers to the Yasawa Group and then back to Port Denarau in the evening.
