Fijians need to display more patriotism.

This was the message relayed to Ratu Sukuna Memorial School (RSMS) students by Attorney-General and Minister for Education Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum while addressing them during their cadet passing-out parade at Albert Park, Suva, yesterday.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum reminded the students that patriotism was not only about winning the rugby sevens and boasting about it.

He said it was about how Fijians interacted with each other and carried themselves in day-to-day living.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum told the students that very soon they would join tertiary institutions and would be part of different professions working in our country.

“Whatever profession you are in, you need to make sure that you do what you are being trained in, to the best of your ability and make sure that you always apply the law and apply rules and regulations equally to everyone,” he said.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum commended the students for their wonderful display of discipline.

He said cadet training  would not only bring about discipline, but also helped to raise a sense of patriotism.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum acknowledged the staff, students, parents and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces for their contribution, especially the willingness of the students to participate in the school cadet programme.
