The seriousness and rising incidents of rape is expected to be one of the topics advocated at this year’s Vodafone Hibiscus Festival.

Leading advocacy on the issue will be Mr Rentokil Initials Leone Waqa Bosekovitivou Niumataiwalu, one of the 12 King contestants for this year’s Vodafone Hibiscus Festival.

The 21-year-old is a student in the University of the South Pacific (USP) doing Double Major in Sociology and History.

Mr Niumataiwalu is originally from Bau, Tailevu.

He said rape was serious in Fiji because members of communities, women, the elderly, children and other minority groups are becoming victims of sexually-motivated crimes.

The Vodafone Hibiscus Festival started yesterday and the crowning night is on August 18.
