Pola Litty Lois Salusalu is aiming to join her sister Miss Vodafone Millennium Sinu Festival winner Esther Vateitei in the upcoming Fiji Pageant.

The 24-year-old sponsored by Labasa Town Council is one of the 12 contestants vying for the Miss Vodafone Friendly North Festival  crown.

The second eldest of four siblings, who also has a twin sister, said she would advocate on dengue fever because it was on the rise in Labasa.

“Last year according to the Ministry of Health there were 898 dengue fever cases in Labasa and Labasa area recorded the highest in the Northern Division,” Miss Salusalu said.

“This year from January to June there were 1369 dengue fever cases, which is a vast increase compared to last year’s statistics.

Hence, this is the reason I chose to advocate on dengue fever because severe dengue cases can be fatal since there is no cure for this.”

Miss Salusalu is doing her attachment as a health inspector at Labasa Town Council.

“I am honoured to represent this non-profit organisation that provides services to ratepayers and business people in Labasa Town,” she said.

“They approached me to step in as contestant because they believe in me and saw some special qualities that I didn’t realise before.

“Through this festival, I want to develop and boost my self esteem, confidence and become a voice of hope.

“I am optimistic about a win and I am excited to meet my youngest sister, Vateitei in the Fiji Pageant.”

The weeklong festival will begin from August 18 at Subrail Park in Labasa.
