A-G: Bus Operators Need To Be Proactive

Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says bus companies need to be proactive in terms of providing services.

“Bus operators in Fiji generally have not kept up with time; they are not very proactive,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

He was responding to a question raised by sugar festival committee president Pushp Raj, who said most busses operating around the country were not accommodative to the elderly and disabled citizens.

According to Mr Raj some buses were too high, making it difficult for the elderly or disabled citizens to board the bus.

He also raised concerns about the lack of allocated spaces in buses specifically for elderly and disabled citizens.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said they would be consulting with bus operators and discussing ways on how the necessary changes could be made in terms of accommodating the physically disabled and elderly citizens on buses.
