Rithik Prasad scored the goal for Baulevu High School in their 1-0 win over Batinikama College in their pool opener of the Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools Football Championship at Korovuto College ground, Nadi yesterday.

Prasad scored the defending champions lone goal in the 22nd minute as they held on to win

Baulevu High School coach Rohit Sharma said they have started well but they would take things as they come.

“The only difference is the weather back home and what we are experiencing here. The boys did their job and at the end of the day I’ll take the win,” he said.

The side boast of five survivors from last year’s winning team. They are Anushil Prasad, Navau Tikoriko, captain Epeli Valevou, Jinal Nand and Prasad.

“We have two players in the Fijian under-19 team in Tahiti. They are Josaia Sela and Inoke Turagalailai but we cannot do anyhting about it but to release them.”

Last year’s runner-up LICI Cuvu College edged out Penang Sangam High School 2-1. Furthermore, a new winner will be crowned in the U17 category after defending champions Kamil Muslim College (Ba) did not qualify from the zone.

Vashist Muni College were held to a 0-0 draw against  Labasa Muslim, Coral Coast Fishing Charters Cuvu College drew 1-1 with Tavua College.

In the U15 category defending champions AD Patel College of Ba also did not qualify as Labasa College beat Rishikul College 1-0 while Reliance Pharmacy Nadi Muslim lost 1-0 to Xavier College.

In the Open Girls grade, last year’s runner- up Xavier College of Ba edged out Sigatoka Methodist High School 3-2 while Vunimono High School came from behind to  wallop Holy Family Secondary Seconday 4-1.
