The families of the late Major Amelia Tadu are discussing with the Ministry of Defence for her body to be flown in from the United States of America to Fiji.

Major Tadu was among the first group of women to be enlisted in the Republic of the Fiji Military Forces in 1988.

Her latest appointment was to the Ministry of Defence as its Senior Military Liaison Officer.

Major Tadu is survived by her four children and former husband Major Lepani Damuni.

Major Damuni said that although they had been separated for five years they were still in contact.

“We have three sons and one daughter. Despite the fact we have been separated we keep in touch because of our children,” Major Damuni said.

“The last time we talked was on July 31st through viber. I was told that she died in her sleep.”

He said yesterday their respective families had started planning the funeral arrangement.

“Her mother has requested for the funeral preparations to be held at our officers’ quarters’ home at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks,” Major Damuni said.

“Major Tadu was someone who talked straight and whenever she has made up her mind she never changes it.

“She was someone strong in character.”
