The Commander of United States Indo-Pacific Command, Admiral Phil Davidson will arrive in the country today.

Admiral Phil Davidson is the 25th Commander of United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM), based in Hawaii.

It includes 380,000 soldiers, sailors, marines, air force personnel, coast guards and the United States of America Department of Defense civilians.

It is responsible for all US military activities in the Indo-Pacific, covering 36 nations, 14 time zones, and more than 50 per cent of the world’s population.

United States Embassy defence attache Commander Constantine Panayiotou said they were excited that the Admiral had chosen to visit Fiji so early in his tenure.

He was appointed in May this year.

Commander Panayiotou  said: “It is a concrete gesture of the importance of the US-Fiji relationship that has grown from strength to strength.”

Admiral Davidson is expected to meet with Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama to discuss security matters in the South Pacific and also security co-operation between Fiji and the United States.

“As Fiji stands as a leader among Pacific Island nations, Admiral Davidson will reiterate the importance of our bilateral relationship and its role in regional security.”
