The Fijian men’s volleyball team created history in the 2018 Oceania Volleyball championship after beating powerhouse New Zealand 3-1 to win gold in Noumea, New Caledonia yesterday.

New Zealand won the first set while the Fijians came back strongly in the second, third and fourth sets to put their names in the history books. It was also the first time for Fiji beat New Zealand in the Oceania games.

Fiji Volleyball director marketing Ilaitia Navunigasau was impressed with the player’s performance.

“The boys have created history winning the Oceania games and beating New Zealand for the first time and everyone now is celebrating in the team Fiji camp, he told SUNsports last night

“We want to thank the supporters for coming out in numbers and supporting the boys,” Navunigasau said.

Navunigasau said they are now looking at the next international event to take part in.

Meanwhile, the Ana Seniloli captained women’s side finished runners- up and settled with silver after going down to New Zealand 3-1..
