United States of America’s Drew Kibler swam a personal best and won gold in the men’s 200metre butterfly with a time of 1minute 47 seconds at the Junior Pan Pacific Championship at Damodar City Aquatic Centre yesterday.

USA’s Jake Magahey won silver with a time of 1: 48 and Japan’s Keisuke Ishizaki won bronze with 1:49.

Kibler said it was a proud moment for him and was thankful to have the coaching staff support throughout.

“It is an incredible honour to win gold for USA, and something I’m very proud off,” Kibler said.

“We have a tremendous staff and couches which makes it relatively easy to go out there and give our best efforts.

“The team cheered me on and having Magahey swimming beside me who also had an incredible swim.”

Kibler said after attending the 2016 Junior Pan Pacific he set a goal to win a medal in 2018.

“It was exciting and it was two seconds faster I clocked 1:49 while in the USA nationals I clocked around 1.47 so this was a little faster but there is always room from improvement,” the 18-year old said.

Kibler will compete in the 100m freestyle today.
