Cricket Fiji received $120,700 from the Fiji National Sports Commission, on behalf of Government, yesterday

The donation is to assist the national team in hosting the 2018 ICC World Twenty20 East Asia Pacific Sub Regional Qualifier which starts tomorrow at Albert Park, Suva.

Cricket Fiji chairman Mosese Yavalanavanua acknowledged the Commission for their support towards the competition

“We are very thankful for the Government for helping us develop the game,” Yavalanavanua said

“This is the first time that Fiji will be hosting an international tournament as such and we are proud of the support.”

Commission executive chairman Peter Mazey said they are proud to be associated with Cricket Fiji

“This is an opportunity for us to show how we love playing cricket in Fiji,” Mazey said

“The FNSC and the Cricket Fiji development officers will be working together to develop cricket in Fiji

“We really want to see cricket grow here in Fiji and we are ready to talk and help.”

Tournament director of International Cricket Council (ICC) Rob Gomm thanked Cricket Fiji for hosting the tournament and FNSC for its ongoing support for cricket in Fiji

“ICC is very excited to get back an international tournament to Fiji,” Gomm said

“The first two winners from this tournament will go on to the regional final.

“This tournament itself is the first step for the qualification of the 2020 World T20 that will be held in Australia.

“We have four teams that will play in this tournament and we hope that the spirit of the games will be very exciting during the competition.”
