The Vanuatu side will not take this year’s Oceania Football Confederations (OFC) Women’s National Cup (OFCWNC) 2018 qualifiers lightly. This is despite winning the gold medal in last year’s Pacific Mini Games when they beat Fiji 2-1 in the final.

With all eyes on this year’s qualifiers, Vanuatu coach George Kalo said they would come hard against Fiji in their opening match at 3pm today.

Kalo said the game against Fiji would be tough since they had played before in Port Vila.

“There is a huge expectation of us back at home to win the match,” Kalo said since his side had trained in China leading up to the Mini Games.

He also said the players are fully prepared to meet the Fijians in their opening match today.

When asked about the Fijian team, Kalo says, Fiji had a good side and displayed good football in the Pacific Mini Games last year.

He also said that they were glad to be here on Fijian soil.

“We are happy to be here in Fiji as we feel at home,” he said.

The Vanuatu side will feature players like Cloe Tate, Eliona Taiwia, Vanessa Keletia, Jane Alatoa, Leisale Solomon, Sylvie Gideon and Vanissa Wilson.

Vanuatu play Fiji at 3pm today at Churchill Park Lautoka.
