More than 400 homes in the district of Navatusila in Navosa will soon have access to electricity under the Government’s rural electricity programme.

This announcement came during a talanoa session with Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama at Nasauvakarua Village on Thursday.

The project will cost around $5 million and works will start soon.

District representative, Orisi Kubunadakai said the district consisted of eight villages and four informal settlements.

He added some homes within the district had not accessed electricity for decades because their villages were remotely located.

“We want to thank Government for this great assistance and this will greatly benefit our district of Navatusila,” Mr Kubunadakai said.

Mr Bainimarama also requested landowners to give the approvals for Government to carry out infrastructure development within the district.

“Sometimes it makes our work hard when landowners don’t give their approval for development to take place. If you want development, then please work with us,” Mr Bainimarama said.

Mr Bainimarama also gave the approval that people within the district access Government services at Nadarivatu, which was closer to them rather than going to Vatumali Government Station.

Fiji Roads Authority, programme manager-west, Joseva Sautu said plans were also in place to upgrade roads within the district, especially in villages where there weren’t any road access.
