Four people in Rakiraki escaped when a Government vehicle crash-landed near their house.

Rohit Deo, 33, of Naqoro, Rakiraki, said when he saw the vehicle veer off the road he ran as fast as he could away from the imminent threat, with three other people.

“We ran out of the garage, fearing for our lives,” he said.

It was around 9.15am yesterday when Mr Deo had been working in the garage with his elder brother Amit Deo, 38, and two other workers.

Mr Deo said that the vehicle had initially hit something beside the road.

It then veered off the road, crashed over their fence, knocked off an outdoor washroom before crash-landing near the garage.

He said things could have been a lot worse had the outdoor washroom not been there.

“It acted as a shield for us. And, the only thing that kicked into my mind was just to get everyone to a safe place. We are very lucky,” he said.

The incident left the two workers shaken.

“I have stopped work as my workers are terrified to work here after the horrifying experience,” he said.

Mr Deo said the cost of damage to his property was estimated at $13,000.

He is pleading to all drivers to drive slowly in the area.

Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that an accident involving a Government vehicle had occurred, but no one was injured.
