Tough competition is expected at the Piazza Dorro Fiji Barista of the Year finale in Nadi.

The competition from October 16-19 will be part of the annual Moffat Chefs Salon Culinaire 2018 at the Fiji National University (FNU) campus in Namaka.

Yees Cold Storage Sales and Training manager/Events co-ordinator Laite Cavalevu was overwhelmed during the one-day regional event at the Sofitel Fiji Resort yesterday.

She said: “In all the years this is the biggest number so far in the Nadi event as we recorded around 40 competitors alone.

“More have come on board and we can see a lot more interest today and a lot more intense as well and the standard has reasoned tremendously.

“You can see the better from the participants and for their understanding of coffee.

“Some know to use the machine but did not understand how to use the coffee in itself so you can see it really improved.

“Making coffee is an art and needs skills to make a grand coffee,” said Mrs Cavalevu.

“This is the hardest region of competition because of the number of competitors involved. Competition will be tough,” she added.
