Melbourne Rising winger, Kitione Ratu is excited to play for in front of his mother in Fiji for the first time.

The 24-year-old is part of the starting line-up that will play the Fiji Airways Fijian Drua at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori at 3pm today.

The Korovou, Tavua native said while growing up and being the only child, he was always close to his mother, Temalesi.

“I am excited and emotional at the same time being back after 18 months and to play in front of my home crowd,” Ratu said.

“Being the only child in the family, I was pretty much close to my mother and she is a big inspiration.

“She has always watched me on television, now she will get to watch me at Ratu Cakobau Park.

“It will be a tough physical game for us and we have trained hard for it and I want to make my parents proud.”

He said after the match he plans to catch up with his family.

“I was missing my mother and her special seafood dish.”

Ratu is urging supporters to come out in numbers to cheer for the Fijian boys and the Melbourne Rising team.
